World Day of Prayer

Faith UMW will host the World Day of Prayer in Aberdeen this year.
The World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of Christian women who come together to observe a day of prayer each year on the first Friday in March.  World Day of Prayer was founded on the idea that prayer and action are inseparable in the service of God’s kingdom.
Services begin at sunrise in the Pacific and follow the sun across the globe on the day of celebration.
Women, men and children in more than 170 countries and regions will celebrate World Day of Prayer on Friday, March 2, 2012.
Each year a different country’s committee serves as the writers of the World Day of Prayer worship service. The women of Malaysia have written this year’s program and have chosen the theme “Let justice prevail.” The women name “fair and just governance” as the basis for peace. It takes courage, compassion and active engagement for justice to prevail.
This year’s service in Aberdeen will be held 7 p.m. March 2 here at Faith Church. The church is handicapped accessible.
Aberdeen teacher Rebecca Reierson, a missionary who served near Malaysia, will be the speaker. She and her family served as educational missionaries in Cote d’ Ivoire, West Africa, and Singapore. Rebecca will share some of her personal experiences with the Malay people while she served in Singapore.
